One of important of these is the Japanese garden in Mažučiai, near Darbėnai, Kretinga district, in Western Samogitia, for no reason dubbed Madzhuchai. A project by Šarūnas Kasmauskas, a former senior marine doctor, is said to cost over 2 mln EUR and build with full service of experienced Japanese landscape architects. The owner quotes the relatively high local hills, the abundance of natural stones as well as proximity to Šventoji river and Latvian / Livonian lands as a premise for a sucess of the biggest Japanese-styled garden in Europe!

Tarp kitų bloge minimų naujienų - liūdnai pagarsėjusio vestuvinio baumkucheno atgimimas... Nagasakyje (nerealus logo)!

Kalbant apie blogą, smagu matyt GerosNaujienos resurrected, linkiu nepristigti jegų:)

The most interesting local news for me is this blog post about the biggest European Japanese garden being built next to my native town, in the Samogitia (Žemaitija) region, since ancient times covered in mist and mystyque.

The blog is run by a friend of mine and there are other interesting posts about Lithuanian things weird and esoteric... So keep an eye on it.

Short Films From a Long Life

Naujausias Jono Meko eksperimentas - sukurti ir parodyti 365 trumpametražius filmus per 365 dienas - iki 2007'ųjų pabaigos.
Ta proga Wired News spausdina Meko interviu (via ve).

Massive respect nepriklausomo kino bočiui.

...

WN: You talked about the 9 million Super 8 cameras in the 1960s. Today, even more people than that are using digital video. Do you think all these filmmakers will change cinema?

Mekas: I mentioned that number, the 9 million, when talking to (director Pier Paolo) Pasolini in Paris in 1968, during the student revolution. "Maybe something interesting will happen with their cameras," I said. "These cameras can change the nature of communications." And he said, "There are more typewriters than cameras. Did that change the world? Did that make this revolution?"

WN: But the digital cameras must be having an influence.

Mekas: Yes, yes definitely. New technologies make more money than old ones.

Lithuanian Jonas Mekas needs no introduction to America's arts scene. In fact he's one of its great-fathers.

His latest project is to create and show 365 films in 365 days - every day until the end of 2007. The poetic shorts will be cut out from Mekas' massive collection of diary footage, documenting explosive 60's NYC scene.

Wired News published interview with Mekas: Short Films From a Long Life.
