Jūratė Statkutė de Rosales nuo 1984 metų yra Venesuelos savaitinio žurnalo „Zeta" vyriausioji redaktorė. Ilgą laiką bendradarbiavo su laikraščiu „Dirva" Klevelande, JAV. Retkarčiais rašo Ispanijos spaudai ir turi nuolatinę skiltį Venesuelos dienraštyje „El Nuevo Pais". Yra gavusi už kultūrinį ir žurnalistinį aukščiausius Venesuelos valdžios ir Karakaso miesto ordinus, 1989 metais buvo visos Pietų Amerikos „Iberų Amerikos Žurnalistų Organizacijos" diplomuota kaip tų „Metų asmenybė".  Lietuvos Prezidento apdovanota 1996 metais LDK Gedimino ordino Riterio Kryžiumi.

Šiuo metu Jūratės rankose esantis žurnalas atstovauja Venesuelos opozicinei minčiai. Žurnalas šalyje turi aukščiausią savaitinių leidinių tiražą.

Jūratė Statkutė de Rosales ispanų kalba yra išleidusi  knygą „Los Godos". Dvi laidos, 1998 ir 1999 metų, sukėlė ispanų kalbos pasaulyje netikėtą susidomėjimą. Šiek tiek vėliau knygą anglų kalba ir pavadintą „Goths and Balts" išleido Vydūno Jaunimo Fondas Čikagoje.

Peru has suffered violent clashes between indigenous groups desperately trying to protect the Amazon and the government, who has pushed through legislation allowing intensive mining, logging and large scale farming in the rainforest.

I just signed a petition urging President Alan García to immediately cease the suppression of indigenous protests, to suspend laws that open up the Amazon to extractive industries, and to engage in a genuine dialogue with the indigenous groups.

The Peruvian government has pushed through legislation that could allow extractive and large-scale farming companies to rapidly destroy their Amazon rainforest.

Indigenous peoples have peacefully protested for two months demanding their lawful say in decrees that will contribute to the devastation of the Amazon's ecology and peoples, and be disastrous for the global climate. But last weekend President Garcia responded: sending in special forces to suppress protests in violent clashes, and labelling the protesters as terrorists.

These indigenous groups are on the frontline of the struggle to protect our earth -- Let's stand with them and call on President Alan Garcia (who is widely known to be sensitive to his international reputation) to immediately stop the violence and open up dialogue. More than 70 per cent of the Peruvian Amazon is now up for grabs. Giant oil and gas companies, like the Anglo-French Perenco and the North Americans ConocoPhillips and Talisman Energy, have already pledged multi-billionaire investments in the region. These extractive industries have a very poor record of bringing benefits to local people and preserving the environment in developing countries - which is why indigenous groups are asking for internationally-recognized rights to consultation on the new laws.

For decades the world and indigenous peoples have watched as extractive industries devastated the rainforest that is home to some and a vital treasure to us all (some climate scientists call the Amazon the "lungs of the planet" - breathing in the carbon emissions that cause global warming and producing oxygen).

The first time I came here, years ago, I was amazed that most people I encountered didn’t know that this universal worker’s fiesta—at once a tragedy and a fiesta, an homage paid to the Haymarket martyrs at the end of the 19th century—came from Chicago. And Chicago has deleted this memory, which is so important for the entire world. In present times, it’s more important than ever, because each May First, crowds and crowds of people, different languages, different cultures, different continents, all celebrate the right to organize.

In April of 1925, a legendary British explorer named Percy Fawcett launched his final expedition into the depths of the Amazon in Brazil. His destination was the lost city of El Dorado, the “City of Gold,” an ancient kingdom of great sophistication, architecture, and culture that, for some reason, had vanished. The idea of El Dorado had captivated anthropologists, adventurers, and scientists for 400 years, though there was no evidence it ever existed. Hundreds of expeditions had gone looking for it. Thousands of men had perished in the jungles searching for it. Fawcett himself had barely survived several previous expeditions and was more determined than ever to find the lost city with its streets and temples of gold.

The world was watching. Fawcett, the last of the great Victorian adventurers, was financed by the Royal Geographical Society in London, the world’s foremost repository of research gathered by explorers. Fawcett, then age 57, had proclaimed for decades his belief in the City of Z, as he had nicknamed it. His writings, speeches, and exploits had captured the imagination of millions, and reports of his last expedition were front page news.

They were never seen again. Fawcett’s daily dispatches trickled to a stop. Months passed with no word. Because he had survived several similar forays into the Amazon, his family and friends considered him to be near super-human. As before, they expected Fawcett to stumble out of the jungle, bearded and emaciated and announcing some fantastic discovery. It did not happen.

The great mystery of what happened to Fawcett has never been solved, perhaps until now. The Lost City of Z is a riveting, exciting and thoroughly compelling tale of adventure by David Grann.

Vis paskaitau, kaip sekasi mažyčiam Chaiten miesteliui, įsikūrusiam vienoje gražiausių ir labiausiai izoliuotų vietų Čilės pakrantėje. Tai bazė išvykoms į mažai žmogaus paliestas vėsiąsias džiungles (temperate rainforest), kuriose siūbuoja iki kelių tūkstančių metų gyvenantys, priešistoriniai medžiai ir šervinė augmenija. Rašiau apie tai.

Netrukus po mano išvykimo, gamta čia užsirūstino - pirmiausia nedidelis cunamis, o gegužę jame išsiveržė vulkanas, tylėjęs amžius (kai kuriais duomenimis - prieš 400, kitais - prieš 10'000 metų). Jis buvo tik už keliasdešimt km nuo, ir matėsi per langą, vokiečio origami menininko paties savo rankomis pastatytuose svečių namuose, kuriuose aš ir buvau apsistojęs. Ten sutikau ir daugiau įdomių ir nuoširdžių žmonių. Panašu, kad dabar jiems teks palikti šią vietą - vulkanas rūksta ir grąsina išsiveržti rimčiau, 90 % miestelio ir dideli plotai aplink padengti pelenais. Čilės vyriausybė ruošiasi miestelį evakuoti ir uždrausti apskritai čia kelti koją.

Sunku patikėt, kad nebebus galima sugrįžt į šią vietą.
